This week is Benjamin Franklin's birthday. Remember, as you network, that Ben Franklin left the rigid and repressive city of Boston to strike out on his own, to make his publishing fortune in free-wheeling and open-minded Philadelphia. He built a printing and publishing empire, a career that anyone could be proud of, but that was just the stepping stone for him into bigger and better things -- things that gave back to the community and are still paying dividends even today -- postmaster, inventor, statesman. He founded insurance companies, libraries, universities, hospitals, and nations.
